“Every ASBO is a failure”

Friday, July 27th, 2007

According to minister Balls, every ASBO issued is a failure. Smirk-inspiring literal truth of the title aside, he’s right, and parents should be taking greater responsibility. Something we’ve been harping on about for a looong time..

Hypocritical maybe, but the above speech makes a large number of pertinent observations on the state of the UK media. I am strongly opposed to the press’, and tabloids in particular, use of sensationalism and propaganda as it is a cause of unrest and potentially damaging to society. His comment about having to spend an increasing amount of time defusing press (and press-inspired) furores is absolutely spot on. Reporting should be based on fact rather than speculation. A transition back to this mode of operation would (could?) result in more efficient government, and restore relative transparency to the industry.
