Unsurprising revelation

Saturday, January 14th, 2006

Well it surprises me not-at-all that they’re making a movie of ‘The Da Vinci Code’. I only read the book fairly recently but the fairly predictable, blockbustery style of writing just screamed movie, I thought. I had great expectations for the book actually given the number of people who have raved about it, but I found that I kept having to remind myself that it was sold, under no pretences, as a bestseller, easy to read kind of thing, rather than as an inspirational piece of storytelling :) so, after clarifying that I actually rated it as quite good…

I’m not so sure about the movie conversion of ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’ due to the large proportion of Chinese hollywood actors cast to play Japanese (i.e. people will recognize them as generic Asians), but then again it’s no different from Americans, or English, playing French, German etc. is it, I suppose. Anyway I haven’t made up my mind about going to see it yet due to the fact I hold the book in such high esteem. We shall see.

Pt2

Ok I feel kinda obliged to say more after what I put yesterday, but today I was walking round looking like a junkie – my bags were that bad – so gonna try to get an early one again tonight (attempted early ones resulted in sleep time of approx 1.30am past 2 nights). Needless to say I’m lacking literary inspiration. So, til I’m alive again…

Alles sehen

Right now I’m absolutely mesmerised by the Miss Kittin remix of Ellen Allien’s ‘Alles Sehen’, on Bpitch. The combination of sounds is just so beautiful, it conjures a sunrise; a train journey through Springtime fields; a warm embrace; a vision of industrial landscapes.. I wish I had more time to rave more about it, but bed is calling once again, once the song’s over… Will write more tomorrow.

Anecdotal relief

This “factual error” in the recent re-release of King Kong made me chuckle, probably due to the way it’s worded (as it sounds not dissimilar to how I would have said it :)

Factual error: The New York scenes take place in winter, on a day cold enough for the lake in Central Park to freeze hard enough to hold Kong’s weight. Despite this, Anne Darrow shows no hint of cold or discomfort, despite wearing a sleeveless gown. Kong takes her to the top of the Empire State Building, where it’s even colder. Still no discomfort. In fact, she’s able to climb a metal ladder, which should have frozen her poor little fingers off. By the time Driscoll reached her, Darrow should have been a block of ice. The effects of adrenaline would never have lasted to keep Anne warm for that long.

There’s plenty more discrepancies too – check out this page.

I also stumbled across this page yesterday. It’s a site I’ve read articles on before but this one had me laughing out loud right after his poll results :) the observations are quite applicable to many other scenarios too – every one born a comedian.
